M(KKπ) invariant mass plot for mis-reconstructed D+ → Kππ decays in Monte Carlo

The bump around 2.02 GeV in the KKπ invariant mass distribution is found to be composed of mis-reconstructed D+ → K-π+π+ decays. In order to extract the shape of the bump, we generate Monte Carlo samples of D+ → K-π+π+ decays using the full CDF detector and trigger simulation. The invariant mass distribution of the mis-reconstructed Kππ decay in Monte Carlo is shown below. We fit the mass distribution using a double Gaussian function (red curve) and use this template to describe the shape of the bump in the KKπ distribution in data.
