The existence of the top quark, discovered by CDF and D0 in 1995,
has been re-established in the beginning dataset being collected in Run 2 of
the Tevatron at Fermilab. Results from CDF on the top quark production
cross section and top quark mass are consistent with the Standard Model
expectations. The well-characterized top data samples will make it possible
in the future to probe further for new physics in the top quark sector.
