The CDF silicon vertex detector is being upgraded for use in Run II
of the Fermilab collider.  The increased luminosity in Run II, coupled with
the desire for increased acceptance and secondary vertex triggering,
necessitates a complete redesign of the previous generation tracker.  Details
of the design are described.
